Jayden Daniels is taking accountability for his Week 5 error

Jayden Daniels has taken accountability at media session after media session this week after failing to stop the running clock in last week's 27-27 tie against the New York Giants.

The Washington Commanders quarterback failed to clock the football on a play snapped with 12 seconds in overtime, causing the period to end and both teams to walk out with a tie. Head coach Dan Quinn, now on the hot seat, shared that the play call was for Daniels to look for tight end Ben Sinnott on a quick out route or throw the ball away.

Daniels spoke with Commanders players at a team meeting and promised to never make the same mistake again.

"I let guys know it'll never happen again, and we're going to move forward," Daniels said that he told teammates.

He's routinely taken the blame for the incident. "Don't even put it on the coaches," Daniels said on Thursday. "I've got to be aware, more aware, go out there and manage the game right. And I did not do that.

"So it doesn't matter what happens on the sideline between the coaches or anything like that. I've got to notice everything that's happening and make sure that we're in the right situation with the football game."

Sunday was Daniels's first start after a gruesome elbow injury against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2. He'll hope to get the 1-3-1 Commanders back on track in a tricky road matchup against the undefeated San Francisco 49ers.

Micah Parsons on Daniels

Green Bay Packers edge rusher Micah Parsons faced Daniels twice in the quarterback's 2024 rookie year, back when Parsons was still a member of the Dallas Cowboys.

The injured Packers star, who will spend a few more weeks recovering from a torn ACL, started his career playing under Quinn in Dallas, who was then hailed as one of the league's top defensive coordinators.

"Jayden Daniels probably cost my man Dan Quinn his job, to be honest with you," Parsons said on his Bleacher Report podcast this week. "And, like, I'm a big Jayden Daniels fan. But the reality is, he probably cost a lot of people their jobs this past weekend.

"All right, respectfully, we get coached so much on these situations that, like, I'm a defensive player, and this s---'s programmed into me. I even know what to do in those situations. There's no way I'm taking a sack with 14 seconds left and no timeouts.
