Rays ride walk-off momentum into Game 5 after stunning 12th-inning comeback in World Series

Milwaukee counters with pitcher Jacob Misiorowski, who has 14 strikeouts in 13.1 postseason innings

For a series that is lopsided in terms of the outcomes, this has actually been a really entertaining World Series. It doesn't matter that one team is up 3-1 in the Fall Classic; the games have been exciting. Well, all of them except Game 3. The Brewers are set up to win tonight with their best pitcher on the mound, and the Rays are hopeful that yesterday's win leads to another one today.

The Milwaukee Brewers had all sorts of emotions yesterday. They once again came back in a game and took a lead. That's been the case for the Brewers in most games this postseason. It seems like the other team scores, the Brewers respond with a bigger punch, and then they turn to a bullpen that has been elite all postseason. It is hard to believe that Milwaukee has been this consistently good in the playoffs, but they finally stumbled a bit last night.

Tonight, they have the upper hand by sending the best pitcher in baseball this year to close out the World Series. Jacob Misiorowski takes the ball tonight. In the regular season, he was 16-5 and led the Majors in ERA, strikeouts, and WHIP. He hasn't quite been unhittable in the playoffs, but he's been very good. Additionally, his arm really shouldn't be tired, as this is the first time anyone has had the opportunity to face him a second time. In 13.1 innings this postseason, he has allowed four earned runs on 13 hits and five walks. He still has 14 strikeouts as well, but this is still a lot to ask of a 24-year-old.

The Tampa Bay Rays have to feel thrilled to get the monkey off their back last night. After dropping the first three games of the series, the Rays had their backs against the wall, and they were down to their final three outs. In the 12th inning, they found a way to make it work. After giving up a homer in the top half of the inning, they led off with a sharp hit ball to third. Junior Caminero lumbered down the first-base line, and thanks to a throwing error, the Rays had a runner on first to start the inning.

It was a bit strange that Caminero, clearly injured, wasn't pulled from the game. The next hitter, Liam Hicks, hit a ball that found a hole, and Caminero made it to third. Then DeLuca singled to center and tied the game. Chandler Simpson hit another single, but it wasn't deep enough to score a run.

After the Rays sent a pinch hitter to the plate, he chopped a ball over Jake Bauers' head, and the Rays walked off the field happy. What was most impressive for them is that they got four hits in the inning and had only five hits in the first 11 frames.

Momentum is a funny thing. The Brewers had all of the momentum in the top of the 12th after a Cooper Pratt homer. Then the Rays took it back. Did they take it for the series, though? I think they might've. Look, facing Misiorowski is not going to be fun or easy, but I think the Rays might have a bit of confidence finally. Maybe it was just a blip in the Brewers' championship run, but I am taking the Rays tonight to get another win before the Brewers close it out at home.
