Caleb Williams was expected to be out for up to a month after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 2, but the Bears star has suggested he could now return for Sunday's clash with the Falcons
Chicago Bears star Caleb Williams has teased an imminent return to the field for Sunday's Week 6 game against the Atlanta Falcons as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury sustained last month.
In the Week 2 defeat to the Minnesota Vikings on September 20, Williams went down awkwardly in severe pain as he tried to escape the pocket to make a play in the red zone on a first-and-goal scramble in the fourth quarter, forcing him to be carted off the field in tears as a result.
After the game, the 24-year-old revealed that he suddenly felt a distinct "pop" in his leg. When his hamstring injury was first evaluated, medical experts projected a month-long absence, and he has since missed Chicago's last three games as a result.
After returning to practice as a full participant for three consecutive days leading up to Sunday's clash with the Falcons, however, Williams is no longer officially ruled out for the match, with his status instead being upgraded to questionable.
In order to feature this weekend, though, the Bears quarterback must clear final medical and stress protocols before he is officially cleared to start, though it would appear as though he has suggested as much after taking to social media on Friday evening with a very telling post.
On his TikTok account, Williams reposted a fan-made hype video edit featuring some of his best moments in a Chicago shirt, offering fans a huge tease about his involvement for Sunday's trip to Atlanta.
The clip opens with footage of Williams being carted off the field after his Week 2 hamstring injury, overlaid with background audio of sports analysts and critics mocking the situation, then cuts to clips suggesting he has "flipped a switch" before transitioning into an intense highlight reel.
Unsurprisingly, the post has sent fans into meltdown, with many now concluding that Williams could well start the game rather than just feature in a limited capacity.
"Caleb Williams reposted this on Tik Tok 28 mins ago safe to say he's back..." one person wrote on X alongside the video Williams had reposted to his TikTok account, which already has almost 2.5 million views.
"Chills. I'm so pumped. Angry Caleb is going to f---ing destroy everyone. LFG," commented another, while a third person added: "Hell yea Iceman is back, f--- the haters @CALEBcsw. Bears fans are behind you."
A fourth user said: "I hope he f---ing shuts all the pundits up. Kid is talented. Point blank," before a fifth chimed: "Inject this in my veins."
Such comments mark a stark change from the ones Williams received after he sustained his injury, when he admitted to hearing jokes about the tears he shed as he waved to the crowd with a towel over his head.
Williams claimed that the emotion had nothing to do with being soft, as the internet tried to portray, and that it was instead the frustration of being unable to stay on the field, rather than the pain itself.
"I'm always gonna show emotion, especially when I can't be out there with the guys," Williams told reporters Thursday. "This is what I love to do. This puts a smile on my face. It's everything to me."
