With higher-ups Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada under just as much pressure as Michael Carrick at Manchester United fans are convinced his former teammate Javier Hernandez is worthy of becoming a board member.

United rescued a point right at the death on Sunday after Patrick Dorgu headed home a crucial equaliser that may have saved Carrick's job. His side drew 4-4 against Aston Villa at Old Trafford and he has maintained that he is looking forward to rather than contemplating whether he'll still be in charge beyond that game.

Carrick's men produced another comeback just days after a remarkable turnaround against AS Roma, coming from behind to beat the Italians 3-2. Many of the club's legends have had plenty to say about the dire situation they find themselves in, sitting in the relegation zone in November.

Javier Hernandez Demands More From Manchester United Players

Hernandez never experienced such tough times during his United career, instead winning two Premier League titles under Alex Ferguson. The Mexican striker still plays his football at the age of 38 for US outfit Atlantic Dallas but his motivational pre-match talk with Sky Sports hints at a future job in management or as a director.

After sharing the pitch with Carrick throughout his spell at Old Trafford, he gave an interesting perspective on the current state of the club. He explained why he is backing his former teammate to turn things around:

"I am confident, I am a believer that sometimes these decisions cannot be in your own way, I'm not saying that because I am in completely favour, I'm saying it in the world. I am more in favour of if a decision is taken already, instead of staying and complaining, go with it and let's see if it was right or not."

Hernandez recalled Carrick's success as interim coach: "Last season he did an amazing job, he brought United back to the Champions League. Now the start of the season wasn't like what we expected, we are used to normally when you have a really good season to maintain that, but football is like that."

Delving into the United boss' personality, he spoke highly of the characteristics that make Carrick a good fit: "I think Michael is the correct man. His personality helps a lot because he has a lot of composure and he's a very calm guy. I think he's the correct guy."

Hernandez particularly gave an inspiring assessment of what is going wrong and how the players need to take more responsibility for their own careers:

"The players need to perform over there, after this white line, when the whistle blows, there's nothing much more the manager can do. They can tell you defend more, run more, but putting on this Manchester United shirt, you shouldn't be looking at what is lacking, you need to be giving your life for this club. It can be one of your best or the best chapter in your career."

Hernandez spent five years at United and quickly became a fan favourite with the nickname 'Chicarito'. A cult hero, he scored 59 goals in 157 games and clearly still has a lot of affection for the club, disappointed to see Carrick's players not giving their all for the Old Trafford outfit.

United fans liked what they heard from Hernandez and have talked him up as a possible candidate for a high-ranking role with the club. That probably isn't something under his consideration right now given he's still playing out in the United States.

One fan pointed out his passion compared to today's coaches: "Chicharito delivered more fire through television than some managers."

Another supporter wants the Mexican to return: "Bring chicha back to united as an manager assistant or to the board!!"

One suggested he takes up a position upstairs: "Put him in that MUnited Board!"

Another feels he embodies what United is about: "ChichaGoat should be involved in the board, his mentality matches this club's spirit."

One added: "Roy Keane would love this lad."

While most of the talk following the draw against Villa is about Carrick and his future as United head coach, there is growing discontent in the fanbase about co-owners INEOS. Particularly sporting director Wilcox and CEO Berrada whose recruitment and direction for the club have raised alarm bells.

Putting a former player in a board member position is an idea that has been floated throughout the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era. There had been talk of Sheikh Jassim wanting the Class of 1992 to be part of his ownership of the club when he rivaled INEOS in a takeover race.
