The San Francisco 49ers might still be buyers at the trade deadline, even after acquiring DeForest Buckner.
According to The Athletic’s Jonathan Jones, San Francisco is “still sniffing around for wide receiver help.”
While Jones didn't name names, players like Jauan Jennings, Brian Thomas Jr. and Josh Downs have been linked to the trade block this year. Jennings used to play for the 49ers but is now playing sparingly for the Vikings; Thomas Jr. is a former first-rounder with the Jaguars who is buried on the depth chart; and Downs requested a trade in the wake of the Colts' purported firesale, which included Buckner and offensive guard Quenton Nelson.
One name that likely won’t be on the list is Jets receiver Garrett Wilson. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported this weekend that there is “no way” the Jets will trade Wilson by the NFL’s Nov. 10 trade deadline, despite interest from other teams. Tom Pelissero of The Ringer/Netflix Sports reported that Wilson “is not, and will not be, available for trade.”
The 49ers’ interest comes as their receiver room has been hit hard by injuries. Mike Evans, Deebo Samuel, Demarcus Robinson and De’Zhaun Stribling are all due to return at various points after the team’s Week 8 bye. Evans is dealing with Achilles tendinitis, Samuel has a hamstring injury and Robinson and Stribling have ankle injuries.
Despite the injuries, the 49ers offense remains one of the top units in the NFL behind quarterback Brock Purdy, running back Christian McCaffrey and tight end George Kittle. San Francisco will get some players back soon, but an infusion of talent would help them continue on their Super Bowl push in 2026.
