Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III has come to the defence of Jalen Hurts after Michael Robinson claimed that the Philadelphia Eagles star is faking his injury.

It was reported earlier this week that Hurts would be out for the Eagles’ game against the Carolina Panthers due to a superficial blood clot in his calf moving. The injury occurred in the Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams, but he was still cleared to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars last week.

However, on Wednesday, it was reported that there was movement in the clot, which led to the team announcing that he would miss out on the game against the Panthers.

While discussing this on “NFL Gameday Kickoff,” Robinson, a former wide receiver, said: “It looked like they were trying to pin the outcome of this season on Jalen Hurts just so that they could have an excuse later on to move on from Jalen Hurts and, again, I’m not saying I know nothing, guys. But if I’m just playing devil’s advocate here, and I’m thinking that way, if I’m Jalen Hurts or anybody in Jalen Hurts’ camp, I’m saying, ‘Well, if everybody’s hurt, I’m hurt, too.’

“To me, it looked like Jalen is kind of getting himself out of the fray so that this lost season … he’s pulling himself out so that this doesn’t look like it’s on me.”

Robert Griffin III had a career that was hampered by injuries, which is why he believes that no player would ever sabotage themselves to avoid playing.

He put out a strong message on X calling out Michael Robinson.

“THIS IS RIDICULOUS. The negative narratives around Jalen Hurts have to stop. Michael Robinson is accusing Jalen Hurts of saying, ‘Well if everybody’s hurt, I’m hurt, too.” And that Jalen Hurts is “pulling himself out so that this doesn’t look like it’s on me.” when Jalen Hurts has a BLOOD CLOT THAT SHOWED MOVEMENT AND COULD BE LIFE THREATENING. That’s OUTRAGEOUS @RealMikeRob WHAT ARE WE DOING MAN? I would never expect this from a former player. I wouldn’t expect this from ANYBODY. Jalen Hurts can’t even have a serious medical condition in peace,” RG3 wrote on his X account.

Hurts was certainly not looking like himself on the field. In 5 games, he has thrown for 933 yards at a 57.8% completion rate with a QBR rating of just 56.4.

However, Hurts has been brilliant in managing injuries and has missed just 5 games since coming into the NFL. Accusing such a player of sitting out on purpose did not sit right with Griffin, which is why he came to the defence of his fellow quarterback.

There is no confirmation on when Hurts will make his comeback, but he will be hoping to silence the critics and return to his former best for the Eagles whenever that happens.
