With Manchester United already down a goal against Chelsea on Saturday, Oct. 31, a red card to Lisandro Martínez saw things go from bad to worse.
Martínez was shown a second yellow card after a VAR review, with his high arm in the box also resulting in a penalty kick for the home side.
Cole Palmer deposited the ensuing penalty kick in the 64th minute, giving Chelsea a 2-0 lead at Stamford Bridge.
Martínez was initially not penalized for his high arm on Wesley Fofana from a Chelsea corner kick, but referee Peter Bankes was summoned to the monitor after the video assistant spotted a possible foul.
After a review, Bankes awarded a foul and produced a second yellow card for the Argentina international.
The red card is likely to increase the scrutiny on Martinez, who was forced to apologize earlier this month after an explosive interview in which he called out the club's hierarchy.
This story will be updated.
