A rugby club has paid tribute to "much-loved" Andy Richardson after his death.

Dodworth Miners ARLFC, based in Barnsley, have paid tribute to former player Andy Richardson. He sadly passed away this week.

The club said Andy was one of the original Dodworth ARLFC Juniors before playing for the club at a senior level. He went on to play for Batley, Huddersfield, and Sheffield Eagles in the early 2000s.

Dodworth Miners said: "Andy will always be remembered on the field for his natural ability and the manner in which he played the game. Tough! Off the field, he was a much-loved and well-respected character around Dodworth and the wider Barnsley community.

"Our thoughts are with Tyler, Eric, Audrey, their family and friends at this very difficult time.

"RIP ANDY!"

A number of others also paid tribute to Andy, with one writing: "No way! Remember watching Andy years ago as a ball boy for the Sheffield Eagles! Such a talent!

"Thoughts go out to Andy's family and all at Dodworth Miners!"

Another added: "RIP big man, had some great times playing in same team as you as a junior at Dodworth, a top bloke who always had time for a chat when we bumped into each other since." One more said: "Will miss seeing you about big lad, will remember our chat we had a few weeks ago outside Meat Mart in town.

"Only got to know you through my lad playing at Dodworth Miners rlfc with Tyler but your knowledge and heart about the game made an impression. R.I.P my friend and condolences to Tyler, your mum and dad a family."
