When it comes to winning, and winning titles, Celtic clearly have the edge in the Premiership over Rangers title winners.
They have effectively 14 in a row, Rangers’ 55 aside, and their players are filled with medals and trophies.
So exactly what experience can Rangers counter that with? What’s Rangers’ current squad got when it comes to winning league titles. Only top flight trophies count, here.
If we go for the Wikipedia order of Rangers players, and why not, you have to go 9 players down the first column before we get a title.
Cammy Devlin, with Sydney FC. It’s a loose one, because he barely played, and left that summer for that reason. But he technically has a league title.
Daisuke Yokota is next, a Latvian title of all things with Valmeira. He was heavily involved and did legit win a league title in 2022. Hardly the Premier League out there in eastern Europe but a league winner nonetheless.
Kosta Nedeljkovic, unsurprisingly, won the Serbian Premier League with Red Star. Serbia is a decent league. Red Star, Partizan being the top two dogs from the same city. Sound familiar?
Then we have probably the shining example of Kevin Kelsy. He’s won the Ukrainian title twice with Donetsk. He has experience at a young age of winning titles.
But unfortunately we have to trickle all the way down the next column for our next entrant – James Penrice, who won Greece’s Super League last season with AEK.
And last but not least? Tochi Chukwuani who won the Austrian Bundesliga with Sturm Graz.
So that’s 7 league titles. A decent four from Ukraine (x2), Austria and Serbia.
Compare that with the dozens and dozens from the east and unfortunately Rangers’ squad is absolutely mountains behind Celtic’s for winning top flight titles. And absolutely none, of course, with Rangers. We’ll get to that in a separate piece.
When push is coming to shove, Celtic’s experience completely eclipses what’s in Govan. Rangers title winners are kind of non existent.
You can have all the ability you want, but when it comes to winning stuff, that’s the X Factor.
And Rangers are so far short through the players (and management) for winning big leagues that it’s an uphill task to win the SPL four points behind and dropping the ball when it counts.
This is what separates champions from also-rans.
Still, everyone’s gotta start somewhere, right?
And we hope to look like idiots in a few weeks for this article about Rangers champions when our side are 10 clear and Celtic are already out the race.
