Florian Wirtz does not expect the knock he sustained against Brighton to keep him out for long, with the Liverpool playmaker offering an update after he was substituted.
Andoni Iraola had already confirmed that Wirtz had a minor issue after he was replaced by Trey Nyoni. And the 23-year-old, whose shot deflected in off Pascal Gross to open the scoring at Anfield, believes it not to be a massive problem.
"We haven’t done any tests yet, but I think it’s not too serious," Wirtz is quoted as saying by the German outlet Sport1. "I’ve been twisting my ankle a bit over the last few weeks. I need to get that sorted out somehow. Then I think I’ll be back for the next game."
Liverpool has a visit of Chelsea this midweek in the Carabao Cup. Should Wirtz be fit and selected, he could face his former Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso in that game.
Following that, there is a game with Arsenal at Anfield in the Premier League, and visits to Fenerbahce and Crystal Palace before the November international break.
"Unfortunately, he had to leave the pitch with a small twist of the ankle," Iraola said. "It doesn't look very big, but we are playing every three days, so we need to see where he is."
At the start of this season, Wirtz has been scrutinized for his performances. Reds legend Jamie Carragher was among his biggest critics, calling for him to be dropped.
"Maybe I'm just an interesting guy, you know?" Wirtz told the BBC with a smile.
"No, I just play my football, and if people want to talk about me or judge me, that's their job. I am not focusing on that. I just want to play football, and more, I cannot do."
Though his effort against Brighton went down as an own goal, Wirtz has three assists this term in all competitions.
