Sheffield and Doncaster have two new boxing champions

Sheffield and Doncaster have two new boxing champions after a sell-out South Yorkshire show which demonstrated everything that is good about women's boxing.

The Manor's Bree Wright triumphed over Lancashire's Jenna Pilling to take the central area middleweight belt back home and parade it at Darnall's Half Moon pub.

Doncaster's Billy Jarmolinski edged a points win over Manor Boxing Academy's Samantha Lightfoot in a central area bantamweight bout that 1,400 fight fans simply couldn't take their eyes off.

Together, the two fights provided 20 rounds of top-class combat.

And anyone who still harbours reservations about the quality of women's boxing can now think again.

The Jarmolinski v Lightfoot scrap was the most compelling watch on the Dave Allen card.

They both started at a lightning pace, trading sharp, snappy punches from the opening seconds.

As expected, Bentley bulldog Billy, trained by Gary Mundy at Athletic Boxing Club in Skellow, was the more come-forward of the two.

But Sam, 24, a former Springs Academy pupil, who lives in Sheffield city centre, was clever and structured in her approach, picking Billy off when she had the chance.

A clash of heads in round four left Sam with a cut, and it may have been a turning point as it encouraged her 23-year-old rival to up her efforts to pin her on the ropes.

The rounds started to look uncomfortable for the Roger Sampson-trained athlete and it seemed likely she would have to do something special to revive her fortunes.

That moment never arrived, though, and Sam ended up on the wrong end of a 94-96 scorecard.

Sam posted later: "Fought my heart out...Heartbroken to say the least. But I am a champion and I will be back stronger than ever. Im made for this and we don’t take the easy route that would be boring. Like they say 'No risk, no story.' "

Before that main event, Bree Wright produced a thoroughly professional 10-round win over Jenna Pilling on the Doncaster Dome card.

The Jason Cunningham-trained fighter landed heavily on a couple of occasions in the opening stages, was quick on her feet and seemed to be finding her range.

Bree, who turns 31 this month, was smart in the way she delivered scoring punches and then ducked out of trouble.

She didn't have it all her own way though against Lancashire's Pilling, 37.

And both looked pretty tired as the fight progressed.

They continued swinging to the end though and Bree's 99-91 points win and first pro title victory was warmly applauded by the crowd.

She may well now be guided towards a British title contest.

The Saturday crowd also witnessed Elias Sinani, a genuinely exciting 27-year-old super lightweight from Wincobank, in action for his third fight of 2026.He was looking for his third stoppage and didn't disappoint.

After a Naz-style somersault into the ring, he was all fast hands and explosive lunges.

He detonated with a straight right hand which landed flush on Matias Camano's jaw, sending the 31-year-old Argentine awkwardly to the canvas.

The away fighter, a veteran of 100 pro rounds, told ref Mark Downing he was willing to continue, but that message didn't get through to his own legs which just wouldn't cooperate.

It was all over in two minutes and eight seconds of round one.

Sinani duly scaled the top rope and backflipped into the ring before treating the crowd to a dancing exhibition.

Elias, based at the Top Boy Boxing Centre in Hallcar Street, Burngreave, had ended it early, just as he said he would.

This boxer is truly a promoter's dream.

Dave Allen posted: "Three fights, three wins all by knockout, Elias Sinani is the biggest puncher in the country."
