St. Augustine stuns No. 24 Edna Karr, snaps 35-game win streak

Losing is not something Edna Karr (LA) has done in nearly three years as Louisiana's top-ranked team entered the ninth week of the season riding a 35-game winning streak.

That winning streak was shattered Saturday night in a way many would have never could have expected as St. Augustine (LA) crushed the Cougars 52-14 handing Edna Karr, the No. 24 team in the Super 25 rankings, its first loss since losing to Acadiana (LA) by six in the 2023 Division I Select Playoff Semifinals.

It's the first double digit loss for the Cougars since that same season where they lost to John Curtis Christian (LA) 41-7.

In front of a crowd of several thousand, the Purple Knights took out five years of frustration on the Cougars. St. Augustine last won in 2020 but has since suffered five straight five straight losses to Edna Karr including a pair of blowout losses last year with one being for a state championship.

The Purple Knights appeared bound and determined to not let that happen.

St. Augustine jumped out early and led 20-8 by the end the first quarter. Edna Karr would not score again until late in the fourth quarter with a running clock going.

With the game already in blowout territory, freshman safety Louis Brown III put the game away with just over two minutes remaining in the half returning an interception 99 yards to put the Purple Knights up 33-8 at the half.

Junior quarterback Jaelle Noble had the game of his life in the win. He had accounted for three total touchdowns by halftime and by the time the final whistle blew, had finished his evening having a hand in all six of St. Augustine's offensive touchdowns.

With the win, St. Augustine moves to 9-0 on the year. The Purple Knights close out the regular season at home on Nov. 6 at home against Archbishop Rummel (LA). Edna Karr will also be at home next week to close out the regular season hosting Jesuit (LA) on Nov. 5.
