Michael Carrick commented on a 3-0 loss for Manchester United against Bournemouth.
The Red Devils have nosedived after their strong second half of the 2025/26 season, and the players produced no response to a midweek 4-1 humbling at the hands of Como in the Champions League.
“We set out to come and win the game and play well and have a response and a reaction.
“You could feel there was a bit of anxiety and tension. The boys went out with the best intentions to try and put in a performance and get a result, but it was one of those where it didn't quite come.
“The game went away from us and becomes a very difficult game. You could feel the emotion in the stadium. I could feel it from the touchline and the dynamics. It was a mixed afternoon, I have to say.
“Leny Yoro slipped for one goal. I thought it was a dubious free kick against Ayden Heaven really.
“I didn't think there was anyone close enough to give a free-kick against him for the first goal to start with, but I'll have to see that again. Leny's slip, obviously, is unfortunate; it happens.
“He's got a huge future. Leny's a fantastic player and he's made a mistake today and he's feeling it, but he shouldn't because he's going to be a top, top player. Mistakes happen.
“In isolation you look at them and go that doesn't happen very often but it's happened to us in different ways. It's not an excuse - it could look different; it doesn't look different. It's the position we find ourselves in right now.
“The fans were there waiting for us to get something in the game - if we’d have got one chance, one goal, they would have been right there with us, you know, and we just couldn't find that moment.
“Then the third goal is a killer goal, and from that time it was what it was. I think it's pretty obvious to say that it was a bit of a strange, mixed-emotion finish to the game, if I'm totally honest with you. So
“They kept going to the end; they're really disappointed and hurting in there. To be honest, the players I've spoken to are really feeling it, so it's not a nice feeling when you see that disappointment.
“But it is what it is; you've got to accept it, and that's the situation we're in at the moment.
“I have to say, it's really difficult for me to have a day like this at this football club and to feel the emotion and the dynamics of what it was like today - not for me personally, but for Manchester United. It was really mixed today.
“I feel a lot of responsibility. I've been at the club a long time and, in the position I'm in, I feel a lot of responsibility, so it hurts an awful lot to see us going through this at this moment in time.”
