Andoni Iraola says he wants "100 percent" from each of his forwards with the Spaniard happy to rotate to keep them fresh at Liverpool.
Lewis Koumas has stepped up at times and Rio Ngumoha has played a key role, with the young duo deputizing for more senior options. But Iraola is happy to ensure that every one of his forwards retains sharpness, even if it means the likes of Alexander Isak not playing every minute — something that was never going to be possible anyway.
"We cannot allow ourselves to play 70 or 80 percent," Iraola explained during his press conference ahead of facing Brighton on Sunday.
"I prefer to bring them off and for them to give their all because we need to play for us. I would like to play 70 percent and win games, but it is not possible."
This weekend, Isak is likely to be flanked by Ngumoha and Bradley Barcola, with Florian Wirtz in the number 10 role in behind. Victor Munoz is injured, while Cody Gakpo is now fit again.
Midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai is set to be missing after limping off in the first half against Brentford, though the Hungarian is not expected to be sidelined for long.
"Dom is going to be out this weekend, but I don't think he is far (away from a return)," Iraola outlined.
"He hasn't trained with the group still, and considering we started with him and he had to go out, we will probably take one or two days more than we would last week.
"But he is in a good place. He is already training outside alone, and he is going to train with the group, but he is not ready for this weekend."
Get Liverpool's new 2026/27 home kit
Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
Iraola was also asked about Ngumoha, who delivered a breakout performance for Liverpool in the Champions League earlier this week.
"I think every player has to focus on performances and improve what they can," he said.
"The outside noise affects, but we have to try and not be, do your job, improve what you can, and don't be too affected by what you hear, praise or criticism. That is the most important thing in the end."
