Lorenzo Musetti is an ATP champion once again after emerging victorious at the Lyon Open.
Musetti was in inspired form at the ATP 250 tournament in France, during which he knocked out a handful of high-profile names. The Italian star ended his superb week by beating American ace Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-4 in the final.
The title represents a long-awaited return to success for Musetti, who had won his two previous ATP titles in the 2022 season. He has now added the Lyon Open to his honours list following those runs in Hamburg and Naples four years ago.
| Year | Titles | Tournaments |
| 2026 | 1 | Lyon (Indoor/Hard) |
| 2022 | 2 | Naples (Outdoor/Hard) Hamburg (Outdoor/Clay) |
Musetti has now reacted to his latest triumph on his social media, posting on his Instagram: “This victory has a very special meaning to me! Heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported and encouraged me during this week.
“It had been a while since I had the joy of lifting a trophy, and being able to do it today is a great satisfaction. Happy and proud of this achievement!”
Musetti has since received countless messages of congratulations on the post, including from tennis legend Boris Becker, who simply wrote: “Forza Lore.”

Musetti is very proud of his Lyon title, which has incidentally ended a seven-match losing streak in tour-level finals for the Italian. The champion dropped to the floor in celebration following his one-hour, 21-minute win over Fritz, who he then embraced at the net.
That victory followed an epic semifinal comeback victory over his fellow Italian Cobolli, during which he saved four match points. Prior to that, Musetti edged past another compatriot, Matteo Arnaldi, and French duo Moise Kouame and Luca Van Assche.
While the Lyon Open champion will be eager to celebrate his fantastic title, he has very little time before his next event. The 24-year-old has committed to the Vienna Open, where he is unseeded. And he certainly doesn’t have it easy at the ATP 500 event in Austria.
Musetti starts out against Frances Tiafoe, with the winner taking on the winner of the all-British clash between Arthur Fery and Jacob Fearnley. After that round of 16 match, the Italian could be drawn against top seed Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals.
Should Musetti continue his fine form into the latter stages of the Vienna Open, he could find himself playing against Alex de Minaur in the semifinals, but there is also a chance that he is reunited with Cobolli.
After that, the small matter of Carlos Alcaraz could await in the final. Alcaraz is a wildcard at the Vienna Open, with the high-quality field also including the likes of Daniil Medvedev, Tommy Paul and Jakub Mensik.
