Dominic Calvert-Lewin may miss Leeds United’s Premier League clash at Sunderland after picking up an injury while playing against Manchester United last week.
The England striker has carried on his great form from last season, with four goals in seven league games – only Erling Haaland, Joao Pedro and Alexander Isak have more.
Daniel Farke’s side have proven to be a surprise package this season, with their only defeats coming away to champions Arsenal in the league and away to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.
Calvert-Lewin found the back of the net again last Sunday as Leeds drew 1-1 with fierce rivals Man Utd, with his second-half strike cancelling out Bryan Mbeumo’s opener.
However, he was on the receiving end of a bad challenge from Diogo Dalot in the 89th minute, and while the 29-year-old was able to finish the match, he appeared to be in a lot of pain.
Leeds travel to the Stadium of Light on Sunday but, speaking in his pre-match press conference, Farke revealed his star striker is a doubt for the trip.
‘We have to wait to assess who is available. Joe Rodon is still out but Daniel James is in contention.
‘Our offensive players from the last game are all doubtful. Dominic Calvert-Lewin got a tackle and a foul late on in the last game and is struggling with a bruise on his foot. So there is still a question mark behind availability.
‘Anton Stach is the same, foot problem, it’s painful at the moment. Noah Okafor struggling with some adductor problems.
‘If the game was today, all three would not be available. They have missed some training sessions this week. Good news is we still have two days and will try to make them available.’
