Injury update on Nottingham Forest duo provided after Ipswich Town draw

Nottingham Forest lost defender Neco Williams to injury during their 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town at Portman Road

Nottingham Forest's Neco Williams sustains an injury during the Premier League 2026/27 match between Ipswich Town and Nottingham Forest FC at Portman Road

Neco Williams has provided a positive update after sustaining an injury during Nottingham Forest’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town on Friday night.

The Welshman had put the Reds in front with a well-taken strike in the 13th minute at Portman Road. But in a familiar scenario for Oliver Glasner’s side, a lack of ruthlessness proved costly and they had to settle for a point in Suffolk.

To add to Forest’s frustrations, they lost Williams in the closing minutes when he fell awkwardly and seemed to be in pain. The defender left the pitch with his right arm wrapped in his shirt but he went on to post an encouraging message on social media after the match.

Williams said on Instagram: A game of mixed emotions. Points on board to build on now. Ps I’m all good.”

Head coach Glasner had said in his post-match press conference: “Neco's in huge pain. He fell on his elbow. We have to do further assessments but it doesn't look really good.”

The Reds were already without midfielder Nicolas Dominguez against the Tractor Boys. The Argentine had impressed in last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal but was not in the match squad at all on Friday evening.

“Unfortunately he has a minor muscle injury. He could be back next week,” Glasner explained.

“It's always the case when we have these small issues that we don't want to take a risk, like with Morgan (Gibbs-White, who missed the Arsenal fixture). We are confident that he will be available against Brentford or at the latest against Manchester City.”

Forest ended a three-match losing streak with the stalemate against Ipswich but they continue to be dogged by a struggle for goals. Glasner, however, is certain results will soon match performances and will support his players in the meantime.

“It is the only way,” he said. “Everyone who has children will agree. When your children put huge effort into something and it does not work, you support and encourage them.

“When you learn to cycle, you fall on your knees sometimes. You try and you try and things do not always work. But when your child puts effort in, you never say to them, ‘You are not going to be able to cycle’. You encourage them.

“I see huge spirit, togetherness and effort from the players, and that is something that has been a big change in the last few games. The spirit, I start to feel. Nobody was blaming anyone when there was a mistake. We always stayed positive. There was no blame.

“That is why I loved everything I saw, just not the result. We will support the players so that they keep their confidence and wait for this to click. Maybe it will be an own goal or a deflection. But the results will follow the performances.”
