Chelsea reportedly sent scouts to watch Nicolo Tresoldi score a hat-trick during Club Brugge’s 3-2 win over Sint-Truidense VV on Sunday.
Article continues under the videoThe 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a host of top European clubs in recent months and he is widely expected to secure a high-profile move next summer amid substantial transfer interest.
AC Milan and Arsenal are believed to be two of Tresoldi’s biggest suitors, although they will face competition from several teams across Europe, including Chelsea and Manchester City, who both sent club officials to watch him in action this weekend.
That is according to a report from TEAMtalk, who claim that both Premier League clubs have joined the race to sign Tresoldi next year.
Chelsea signed Danny Welbeck and Emmanuel Emegha to replace Nicolas Jackson and Liam Delap this summer, but Morgan Rogers was selected as a centre forward in Joao Pedro’s absence versus Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday and it’s understood they are once again monitoring the striker market ahead of 2027.
Tresoldi has emerged as a possible target for the west London giants and they are understood to be keeping close tabs on his development following an impressive start to the new season.
The 22-year-old, who is eligible for both Italy and Germany at international level, has scored 12 goals in just 14 matches across all competitions so far this term, including the aforementioned hat-trick against Sint-Truidense VV.
He also netted three times during a win over Inter Milan in the Champions League earlier this month, and he is currently the joint-top goalscorer in the competition this campaign - with four strikes.
Man City reportedly view Tresoldi as a possible replacement for Erling Haaland, who has been tipped to leave the club amid their pending punishment for 114 financial breaches, while Chelsea are keen to continue assessing his development. However, Club Brugge currently have no interest in sanctioning a sale.
Chelsea are expected to prioritise the signing of a new central midfielder in 2027 and it’s understood that a large portion of their transfer budget is set to be spent on Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott.
As a result, it remains to be seen whether they will go big for a new attacker or trust Welbeck and Emegha to act as suitable back-up options to Pedro.
However, if Pedro’s fitness issues persist, then Chelsea’s hand may be forced and a move for Tresoldi may make perfect sense given his recent goalscoring exploits.
