Manchester City striker Erling Haaland went against what Enzo Maresca wants from his captain by celebrating his brace against Paris Saint-Germain. With Ruben Dias substituted at half-time, Haaland was given the armband for the second 45 minutes with his side 3-0 down.
With Iliman Ndiaye and Ayyoub Bouaddi among those that came on, the deficit was quickly reduced. The former's whipped cross was headed in by Haaland before Bouaddi pulled a pass back into his path and he duly swept home his second.
In between those strikers, a calamitous error from Gianluigi Donnarumma saw PSG restore breathing room. City pushed for a third with Haaland and Enzo Fernandez both hitting the frame of the goal, but PSG held firm and ran out 4-2 winners.
The second 45 minutes was particularly chaotic with tactics seemingly out of the window. That may have also included rules with one of Enzo Maresca's - deployed for the last three years - not followed by Haaland.

Speaking on the possibility of Haaland being captain, Maresca said in pre-season: "At Leicester and Chelsea, I had a rule that when we scored, the captain had to come to the bench for instructions and not celebrate.
"But if he scores, then he can celebrate. If Erling is the captain, f------ hell -- we have a problem, can you imagine? I think even if it is two or three minutes, there is always something to adjust.
"At the moment, we have three or four [captains] and we are missing one [Rodri is recovering from back surgery]. In the case of Rodri, see what happens."
The Spaniard would have formed part of Maresca's leadership group, with Bernardo Silva's departure also meaning other names were needed in the captaincy conversation. With Dias taken off, Haaland appeared to be the natural successor, yet he showed little intention of adhering to Maresca's rule.

Instead of making his way towards the touchline after his excellent glancing header, he fist-bumped the air before exchanging a few words with Josko Gvardiol while returning to the halfway line.
With City trailing by three goals before his strike, Maresca's rule may have been rendered irrelevant, with the Italian captured walking slowly around his technical area, arms crossed, rather than issuing instructions.
Following his second goal - which arrived after PSG had re-established their three-goal cushion - Haaland merely jogged back to the halfway line.
While not explicitly stated, Maresca almost certainly meant for the rule to apply mostly when City score either the opening goal or one that extends their lead, with such celebrations typically lasting longer than Haaland's two against PSG.
Alongside the 60,000 supporters witnessing an outstanding encounter, Pep Guardiola was also present, with the former City manager flying in from Barcelona to demonstrate his support following the club's guilty verdict concerning 114 financial charges.
City have lodged an appeal against the independent panel's conclusions and maintain their innocence.
