Disappointing Celtic Park Update Ahead of Beşiktaş

More than 3,400 tickets were still on general sale on Wednesday afternoon for Celtic’s Europa League meeting with Beşiktaş on Thursday night.

CeltsAreHere counted 3,454 available seats on Celtic’s official ticketing site at 5pm. Adult tickets start at £45, with over-65s and under-16s from £32, and a booking fee of up to £1.60 applies to each ticket.

Blue sections show on the seat map across both tiers of the North Stand, the Jock Stein Stand and the Lisbon Lions Stand. The total shifts during the day, as seats held in other supporters’ baskets drop out of the count and return when those baskets expire.

It is a familiar pattern from this campaign. CeltsAreHere reported around 3,500 tickets left three days before the Ferencváros game in September, and around 2,239 ahead of Celta Vigo last month.

Hospitality is also still available from the club. Club 67 costs £135 for adults and £80 for children, while Club Celtic is priced from £85 to £145. Champions Travel, which sells official Club 67 packages, has the match listed as sold out on its own site.

The general sale number shows tickets left to buy rather than empty seats on the night. Season ticket holders on the Home Cup Ticket Scheme are charged automatically for European home games, and Celtic do not run a ticket exchange, so a seat that has been paid for but goes unused cannot be passed on through the club.

Martin O’Neill’s side go into the game without a point from their first three league phase matches, having lost to Ferencváros, Benfica and Celta Vigo. For anyone still weighing it up, the seats are there, and the team could do with the backing.

There are many reasons behind the lack of interest in general sale tickets. Celtic again didn’t put their best foot forward in the summer window and now have a squad who looks incapable of winning any big games. They are struggling against everyday SPFL opposition. In Europe, they have been ridiculously poor.

Put that together with many fans still very down on the PLC and the way they continue to conduct their business, it makes for another lacklustre night under the lights for Celtic. The fans who are there will likley try their best to lift the side but with the Green Brigade boycott still in place, it could be a tough night for the atmosphere that once would have been a cauldron.
