Nick Woltemade is facing a major career obstacle after being axed from Germany’s squad for the upcoming international break.
Just over two months have passed since the 24-year-old left Newcastle United on a season-long loan. It was - and still is - hoped that Woltemade can rediscover his form at Juventus.
There is no obligation-to-buy clause inserted into his Juve deal. Newcastle have essentially gambled on Woltemade performing well so they can set the terms for a permanent transfer next summer.

But just two Serie A starts has hardly given the Newcastle loanee a platform to shine. Juventus boss Luciano Spalletti has preferred Kolo Randal Muani in attack, with Woltemade’s opportunities largely restricted to the Europa League.
He started in the No.10 role and registered an assist as Juve beat AZ Alkmaar 2-1 on Thursday. Regardless, his career has reached a crossroads little over 12 months since he joined the Magpies for a club-record £64million.
A section of Newcastle fans have questioned whether shipping Woltemade out was a mistake given the lack of goal threat up front. His only appearances under Jaissle were against West Bromwich Albion in the Carabao Cup and a cameo at Tottenham Hotspur.

While explaining his decision, Klopp left the door open for Woltemade to return to the Germany setup in future. He told reporters: "For goodness' sake, we would be crazy to close the doors. These are all great footballers. We are making decisions at the highest level," Klopp explained.
"We have of course also spoken with Nick. And Nick, to be honest, is having a rather good phase at Juve. A lot of things are coming back. He didn't have an easy time after the move to Newcastle. That is a different kind of football.
"Nick is on a good path and there too we are in talks. At the moment, (his) absolute goal threat is lacking a bit. But game development, continuation of play and so on are all there. That's why no door is closed there.”
