The Baltimore Ravens continue to overhaul their quarterback room, waiving Austin Reed after officially completing their trade with the Arizona Cardinals for veteran Jacoby Brissett. According to NFL Communications, Baltimore waived Reed on Friday as the organization finalized the acquisition of Brissett, who is expected to become the Ravens' fourth starting quarterback in four games when they face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 10.
The transaction comes one day after Baltimore suffered a 33-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, extending its losing streak to four games and dropping Jesse Minter's team to 4-5.
Reed had been part of Baltimore's emergency quarterback depth following injuries to Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley. Still, Brissett's arrival gives offensive coordinator Declan Doyle a more experienced option as the Ravens attempt to revive their struggling offense.
Baltimore officially completed its trade with Arizona on Friday, acquiring Brissett and a 2027 fifth-round draft pick in exchange for a 2027 fourth-round selection and a 2028 seventh-round pick. The Ravens also received financial assistance from Arizona, which converted a portion of Brissett's remaining salary into a signing bonus before completing the deal.
Brissett, 33, brings 73 career starts and 11 seasons of NFL experience to a Baltimore offense that has struggled since losing Jackson and Huntley.
The veteran started Arizona's first eight games this season before being replaced by Gardner Minshew II. His availability made him an attractive option for a Ravens team that suddenly found itself relying on inexperienced quarterbacks during an important stretch of the season.
Baltimore has now scored fewer than 14 points in four consecutive games for the first time in franchise history.
Reed joined Baltimore's quarterback options after Jackson suffered a right thumb injury and Huntley sustained a toe injury during the Ravens' Week 8 loss to Buffalo.
Both quarterbacks subsequently landed on injured reserve, leaving rookie Joe Fagnano and newly signed Kedon Slovis among Baltimore's available options.
Fagnano made his first NFL start Thursday against Jacksonville but struggled to establish a passing attack, completing 10 of 18 attempts for 60 yards and two interceptions. He finished with a 22.7 passer rating as the Ravens managed just 10 points.
Reed's departure reduces the number of quarterbacks on Baltimore's roster while creating a clearer path for Brissett to take control of the offense.
The Ravens could still make additional moves to address their depth, particularly with Jackson unavailable for at least four games and Huntley's injury expected to keep him sidelined for an extended period.
Brissett is expected to start when Baltimore hosts the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday, Nov. 16, giving the veteran additional time to learn Doyle's offensive system.
Fagnano and Slovis remain options behind Brissett, though the coaching staff will need to decide how to structure the quarterback room moving forward. The Ravens have struggled to generate consistent offense over the past month, and their passing attack has become increasingly limited without Jackson. Brissett's arrival won't immediately solve the offensive line's protection issues or Baltimore's inability to sustain drives, but it gives Minter and Doyle an experienced quarterback who can stabilize the position.
With the Ravens sitting below .500 and facing growing pressure to turn their season around, the latest roster move represents another step in Baltimore's attempt to salvage its season.
