We're almost at the halfway point of the Green Bay Packers' 2026 season, and they're looking pretty formidable.
Jordan Love is playing some of the best football of his career, while a surprising defense coordinated by Jonathan Gannon is more than holding its own at all three levels. So, what happens when all-world defender Micah Parsons returns to the Packers' lineup after he finishes his ACL tear recovery? What happens when Parsons becomes more of a dynamic complementary piece rather than a load-bearing pillar for Green Bay's entire defensive operation?
Hoo boy, we may have emphatic answers to these critical Parsons questions ... relatively soon. That much seems for certain. Parsons will unfortunately sit out Sunday's road matchup with the NFC North rival Detroit Lions, but his absence from the Packers' defense probably won't be much longer after that.
At the moment, it sure seems like the Packers want to give Parsons as much time as possible to be himself before throwing him into the fire. He has yet to participate in a full week of practice, and there is no indication that will end this coming week after Green Bay's game against the Lions. In fact, the best guess for when Parsons will finally make his 2026 season debut will be after the Packers' Week 11 bye.
That means Parsons may miss at least four more games, including two in their division, before he plays again. That's a huge bummer on its face, but it will give Parsons more time to look like himself the moment he's back and trying to harass opposing quarterbacks in the pocket. The silver lining? It should help Green Bay keep forging a strong defensive identity that isn't entirely contingent on Parsons having a dominant game just to win.
Technically speaking, Barryn Sorrell is currently occupying Parsons' usual spot in the Packers' lineup. Sorrell is in his second NFL season after being selected in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
