Thomas Tuchel will name his England squad on Friday for the final Nations League games against Croatia and Spain, and Arsenal could have plenty of players involved.

Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ezri Konsa and Eberechi Eze were all in the last squad and will be hoping to keep their places. Bukayo Saka was there too, but he’s now sidelined with a quad injury.

That obviously leaves a spot free on the right wing, and the most obvious player to fill it is surely Noni Madueke.

Noni Madueke should replace Bukayo Saka for England

After playing five games at the World Cup, Madueke missed out on Tuchel’s squad for the last break. But according to football.london, there’s growing expectation that he’ll be recalled this time.

He’s certainly playing like someone who made the most of being left out. Mikel Arteta revealed that Madueke was “the best player” in training during the last international break, which left him “no option” but to pick him at left wing on their return to the Premier League. He has since reverted to the right in the absence of Saka, and has been one of Arsenal’s most consistent players in recent games.

He opened the scoring in Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Slavia Prague with a composed finish on his weaker right foot, and he played every minute of the games against Bayern Munich, Everton and Liverpool. He’s also creating more than ever. According to WhoScored, he’s averaging more key passes per 90 minutes than any other player in the Premier League this season, ahead of Rayan Cherki and Marcus Rashford.

With Saka out, he’s the most natural like-for-like replacement Tuchel has.

Noni Madueke has some competition on the right for England

Of course, there are other options Tuchel could opt for. Morgan Rogers played on the right against the Czech Republic in the last set of games, and Cole Palmer, who can also play off the right, could be recalled. Rio Ngumoha has impressed out on that side for Liverpool in recent Champions League games, too.

Max Dowman will surely come into Tuchel’s thinking down the line, but it’s still too early for him, especially as he hasn’t played much for Arsenal this season.

We can also expect to see Declan Rice back in the squad after he missed the last camp to manage his workload, though that hasn’t stopped Arteta using him plenty.

The England squad is announced on Friday, and on current form, Madueke should absolutely be in it.
