Madison Prep quarterback Jacobe Shannon Jr. runs toward the end zone for a touchdown against St. Michael on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at St. Michael the Archangel High School.

Madison Prep had another impressive offensive showing Friday night at Plaquemine, but it was a bend-but-don't-break performance from its defense that allowed the Chargers to pull away for a 34-7 win.

Coupled with quick scores from the Madison Prep offense and a methodical attack from Plaquemine, time of possession favored the Green Devils by more than 10 minutes. It wasn't enough for a Plaquemine offense that scored once in four trips inside the red zone.

The win leaves Madison Prep in the driver's seat for the District 6-4A title. Madison Prep (7-2, 6-0) will clinch the title next week with a St. Michael loss or a win over Tara.

"I'm proud of the way we played defensively," Madison Prep coach Landry Williams said. "We settled down and showed who we are. We've been dominant on the offensive and defensive fronts all year. That's who we are."

Plaquemine (5-3, 4-2) got 210 yards passing from quarterback Jermaine Robinson. He completed 18 of 31 passes but was sacked five times by the Chargers.

Madison Prep's offense produced eight plays of 20 yards or more. One of those was a 73-yard second-quarter touchdown run by Harlem Turner. He finished with 182 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries.

"He's a monster. He's a tough guy to bring down in the open field," Williams said of Turner. "He has good vision and he runs behind his pads real well."

The Chargers also got a good night from senior running back Roy Hawkins. He converted a two-point try in the first half and added touchdown runs of 11 and 21 yards in the second half.

Trailing 21-7 at halftime, Plaquemine took the second-half kickoff and held the ball for more than seven minutes. In all, the Green Devils ran 15 plays, but they couldn't convert the drive into points after picking up a first-and-goal at the Madison Prep 1.

A holding penalty negated a touchdown run by Spencer Collins, and the drive ended with two incompletions by Robinson. Madison Prep responded by moving 94 yards in four plays to push its lead to 27-7.

The series started with Jacobe Shannon's 24-yard completion to Landon Johnson. After Turner broke loose for a 47-yard run, Hawkins took a handoff 11 yards for the touchdown.

Madison Prep and Plaquemine combined to score three early touchdowns. The Chargers got touchdown runs of 6 and 73 yards from Turner. In between, Plaquemine worked in a six-play, 79-yard drive that featured Robinson's 45-yard completion to John Walker.

The opening flurry left Madison Prep with a 14-7 lead. Both teams turned up their defensive effort after that, and the score looked like it would hold until halftime.

Madison Prep had a different thought.

After forcing a punt, the Chargers took over at their own 30 with 1:35 left in the half. Jacobe Shannon broke loose for a 56-yard run on first down, and Turner followed with a 14-yard touchdown run. The play set up Madison Prep with much-needed breathing room and a 21-7 halftime lead.
