Rangers vs Dundee behind-closed-doors friendly result and line up as fringe star grabs chance

The two clubs faced off for the second time in four days in a bounce game

Rangers Training Centre

Dundee have doubled down on their top flight draw with Rangers at Dens Park on Saturday night - by beating the would be title contenders behind closed doors at their own Auchenhowie training ground just three days later.

Record Sport understands Steven Pressley's side secured a 2-1 win on the outskirts of Glasgow this afternoon after agreeing to travel south for a bounce game against a side made up largely of Derek McInnes' second string.

The Dark Blues were awarded two penalties and converted one with Liam Kelly saving the other. Charlie Reilly and one of two trialists were on target. Ross McCausland, who has featured just once this season off the bench when he scored the 5-1 Premier Sports Cup romp against St Mirren at Ibrox, scored for the Light Blues.

The likes of Bojan Miovski, Findlay Curtis, Vanja Dragojevic, Tochi Chukwuani and Ben Godfrey all featured for a strong looking shadow Ibrox side but suffered defeat on home soil against the Dens Park side.

The friendly came hot on the heels of Saturday night's 2-2 draw between the two sides on Tayside which brought Rangers' six game winning streak in the league shuddering to a halt - and secured Dundee's place in the top four as the Premiership's surprise package under Pressley.

That result also allowed champions Celtic to open up a four point lead at the top of the table the following day, when they hammered seven goals past Hearts on an astonishing afternoon at Parkhead.

Celtic now head into a Europa League tie against Celta Vigo in Glasgow's east end on Thursday night, while McInnes and Rangers will look to get back to winning ways with a league visit from St Johnstone on Saturday afternoon.

The clubs agreed to a close-door clash on Tuesday afternoon to allow players to ramp up their fitness away from the Premiership spotlight.

Dundee have faced a series of injury woes in recent weeks but Ryan Finnigan, Reilly and experienced defender Joe Wright all keen to game time.
