Barcelona have spent decades producing footballers capable of changing the game, with La Masia remaining central to the club’s identity.
From Lionel Messi to Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta, the academy has helped develop players who went on to dominate European football.
Lamine Yamal is now building a legacy of his own, despite still being in the early stages of his career.
The winger made his senior debut at just 15 and quickly became a regular under successive Barcelona managers.
His fearless dribbling, close control and ability to create chances have made him one of the most exciting attackers in world football.
He has also translated that promise onto the international stage, helping Spain win Euro 2024 before adding the 2026 World Cup to his growing list of achievements.
Lamine Yamal has now made history by becoming the first player to finish inside the Ballon d’Or top 10 in three consecutive editions before turning 20.
The Barcelona star secured third place in the 2026 rankings, behind Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane and Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe.
It followed his second-place finish in 2025, when Ousmane Dembele claimed the award, and an eighth-place result in 2024, when Rodri was crowned the world’s best player.
The consistency is particularly remarkable given Yamal’s age.
His first top-10 finish came when he was only 17, after an impressive breakthrough season with Barcelona and a starring role in Spain’s European Championship triumph.
He then elevated his performances in 2024/25, registering 18 goals and 21 assists across 55 appearances, according to reports on his campaign.
His contribution helped Barcelona secure a domestic treble under Hansi Flick, while his performances in major matches strengthened his reputation as a player capable of delivering under pressure.
Yamal also collected the Kopa Trophy, recognising the world’s best young player, for a third consecutive year at the 2026 ceremony.
That latest honour further underlined his extraordinary progress, even though the main Ballon d’Or prize went elsewhere.
