Liverpool want Aston Villa star to replace ‘lazy’ Iraola starter who’s subject of major move in 2027

Liverpool are weighing up a potential move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki amid doubts over Alisson’s future, according to reports.

Alisson was the subject of interest in the summer transfer window from Italian sides Juventus and Inter Milan but any transfer was ended when Liverpool asked him to stay for one more season.

The Reds brought in Giorgi Mamardashvili 18 months ago as they looked to the Georgia international as a potential long-term replacement for the Brazilian.

However, it now appears Liverpool could still look for another top goalkeeper if Alisson leaves Anfield in the summer transfer window.

TEAMtalk are claiming that Liverpool are one of several major clubs ‘to have checked on Suzuki as they assess their options between the posts amid uncertainty surrounding the future of long-time No.1 Alisson Becker’.

The report from transfer insider Graeme Bailey adds: ‘We understand that the Brazilian’s long-term future is a subject of discussion at Anfield, with Liverpool considering what their next move should be as they plan for the future of their goalkeeping department.

‘The Reds already have young Belgian goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans coming arriving in 2027, while Giorgi Mamardashvili is also on their books.

‘However, Mamardashvili is not currently viewed as the long-term replacement for Alisson, and Liverpool are continuing to assess alternative options in the market.’

Brazilian giants Flamengo are now considering a major move for Alisson in the summer with Sport Witness insisting that Alisson ‘is attracting interest’ from the Brasileirão side.

It is understood that ‘his name has genuinely been raised internally, although there is no agreement on what to do next’ and some ‘believe his quality, experience and profile would make him an excellent addition’.

But ‘others are far less enthusiastic, pointing to his age and uninspiring performances for the Brazilian national team’ and the club’s own financial issues, although they haven’t entirely ‘killed the idea’.

Liverpool lost 3-2 to Fenerbahce in a late comeback from the Turkish side after the Reds were leading 2-1 heading into the final 17 minutes of the game.

After Archie Brown had equalised for Fenerbahce in Champions League clash, Vedat Muriqi scored a header 11 minutes from time to give the Turkish outfit all three points.

Alisson criticised after Fenerbahce performance for Liverpool

Former Rangers and Scotland striker Ally McCoist insists that Alisson should have attempted to come and get the ball before Muriqi got a head on the ball.

McCoist said in commentary: “Brilliant header. When the ball comes in, I just think it’s in the air for a very long time, and I’m looking at my goalkeeper and I’m thinking where is Alisson?! The goalkeeper has to come for that.”

It is not the first Alisson has been criticised with Stephen Warnock picking him out last season for being “lazy” in their win over West Ham.

After Alisson played a pass straight to West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen inside his own penalty area, which he got away with, Warnock said: “So complacent from Alisson. He thought it was a simple pass and it was far too lazy and relaxed.”
