Alexander Isak scored his seventh Premier League goal of the season on Sunday, slotting home to round off the scoring as Liverpool beat Crystal Palace 3-1.

The Swede has been in brilliant form this term, sitting behind only Erling Haaland in the Premier League scoring charts.

It had looked like he would be leaving Selhurst Park without a goal having missed a late one-v-one against Dean Henderson, but Isak had one more chance left in him, slotting home a deflected effort after good work from Victor Munoz and Florian Wirtz.

The goal looked like a fairly easy one at first viewing, but replays showed just how good the dummy was which Isak sold to the sliding Chris Richards, with former Liverpool players Daniel Sturridge, Jamie Carragher and Michael Owen all hailing the No. 9’s composure in front of goal.

Sturridge, Carragher and Owen hail Isak

Isak was not hugely involved in Liverpool’s all-round game on Sunday, but still popped up to score once again.

Sturridge was quick to highlight the quality of the 27-year-old’s finish on Sky Sports after the game, expressing his delight that Isak continues to prove himself week on week after a difficult start at Liverpool last year.

“Isak, I love the fact that he just took his time,” Sturridge said. “You see guys rush, especially late on in the game because they’re so desperate.

“He missed a one on one earlier on, you’re probably thinking ‘is he going to snatch at this chance here?’ But he shows his quality as to why he’s one of the best goalscorers in the Premier League right now. Proving himself time and time again, and it’s a brilliant finish.”

Carragher echoed his former teammates’ praise, claiming that of all Liverpool’s three £100m+ players, Isak is the one who currently looks like being worth the premium fee.

“That sort of composure, when you think about the money Liverpool have spent on their attack with the three players, Barcola, Isak and Wirtz, Isak is the one this season who is really showing why they spent that money,” said the former defender.

“That is real class, so many strikers would just lash at it with their left foot. Great composure.”

Meanwhile, over on Premier League productions, Owen was also liking what he’d seen from Isak, also pinpointing his presence of mind to sell such a delicate dummy to Richards with plenty of pressure on him in the Palace penalty box.

“I just love his disguise here, Isak,” Owen said. “He does so well, sits his man down, cuts inside, little deflection into the back of the net but he’ll be delighted. Another goal for him and he’s starting to get his tally up now.”
