Milan haven’t earmarked only big-ticket players to shore up their defense in January, like Leny Yoro and Gonçalo Inacio, as they could settle for a youngster to round out their corps and have recently laid eyes on Daniele Ghilardi and Raphael Le Guen.
According to Matteo Moretto (via Retesport), the former could move since he isn’t playing a lot under Gian Piero Gasperini. The Rossoneri wouldn’t mind adding a prospect with upside, especially if Italian. The capital club snapped him up for a €10M package after he flourished at Verona. He has made 32 appearances in the Eternal City, although he’s never been a regular. Plus, his team added Leonardo Balerdi and Konstantinos Koulierakis in the summer.
Milan could test the waters for Ghilardi if they estimate that it’ll be too difficult or expensive to acquire the Manchester United and Sporting CP stars. They also have Le Guen on their radar. However, he recently fractured his fibula and will miss a few months, likely thwarting their January plans.
The 20-year-old has played for Brest his entire career and seemed on the verge of breaking out before his injury. He has 11 Ligue 1 appearances under his belt. The Rossoneri are looking for immediate reinforcement since Matteo Gabbia will spend a long time on the shelf due to a partial tendon tear in his thigh.
They’ll have to decide whether they want somebody elite to properly lift their defense or just a depth piece. There’d be plenty of options in the second case. The call could simply come down to their remaining budget and their targets’ price tags.
