One Chelsea player Tottenham Hotspur will not be looking forward to seeing on Saturday is Moises Caicedo.
Spurs travel to Stamford Bridge to take on fierce rivals Chelsea, and there is no doubt that Caicedo will start so long as he is fit. The midfielder has had some injury trouble this season but is available again and has made quite the impact since returning to the Chelsea team.
In the two games Caicedo has started, the Blues have only conceded two goals. They were even able to keep a clean sheet against Everton last weekend, their first in nine months! His return is terrible news for Tottenham.
Since Caicedo joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023, Tottenham have not actually beaten their London rivals. In fact, they have lost all of their matches!
Caicedo has faced Spurs six times as a Chelsea player and won all six! His first came back in the 2023/24 season when the Blues beat the north London club 4-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Caicedo scored an excellent goal that night only for it to be ruled out. It took two Tottenham red cards before Chelsea could take the lead, but they got the job done after initially going 1-0 down.
At Stamford Bridge this weekend, you would expect a much more comfortable outing for Xabi Alonso’s men. Chelsea have found a bit of form of late, and while Tottenham were able to beat Coventry City 3-1 on Monday, they have made a poor start to the season.
Chelsea will not be expected to make too many changes versus Spurs following their impressive performance away at Everton.
To add insult to injury, in one of the six wins Caicedo has picked up against Tottenham, he played as a right-back. It was in the 2024/25 season when Chelsea and Spurs played out a 4-3 thriller, with all three points returning to Stamford Bridge.
While Caicedo was out of position, he still had a terrific game. According to Sofascore, the Ecuadorian won both of his two tackles, made two interceptions and also made one clearance.
Caicedo won five out of eight ground duels and two out of two aerial duels. He was not dribbled past once.
Caicedo was very good on the ball, too. The former Brighton man recorded a 90% pass success rate after completing 44 out of 49 passes. His one cross was successful, as was the one dribble he attempted.
Clearly, wherever Caicedo plays he makes an impact. Chelsea perhaps would not have won that day without him.
In terms of goal contributions, Morgan Rogers has an excellent record against Tottenham, so Roberto De Zerbi will probably need to be more worried about the England international.
