Liverpool are believed to be eyeing a move for Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde, according to a new transfer claim, as they look for added reinforcements.
The Reds head to Turkey to take on Fenerbahce in the Champions League on Wednesday evening, with head coach Andoni Iraola previewing the game in his pre-match press conference:
“I think Istanbul is always going to be special for Liverpool. It is difficult to find a better night in football, a comeback like that one on such an important night. Talking about tomorrow, we know it is not going to be easy. You talk about the statistics, not just Liverpool alone, just English teams. I came here to play, so if you go to the Spanish teams, it will be similar.
“It is always difficult to come to Turkiye and play and we have to be very ready because Fenerbahce have very good players, a very good squad. They also have experience and know how to play in this competition, so we have to start the game strong and try to kill the confidence and the momentum they can have with the supporters.”
Away from the on-pitch action, Liverpool will no doubt be eyeing further signings in 2027, and it looks as though Balde is a potential target moving forward.
That’s according to Medium [via Caught Offside], who report that the Merseysiders are exploring a move for the 23-year-old, while journalist James Wathland has said this on X:
“I’m watching Alejandro Balde, a left-back who’s available in January. Could he be a Kerkez replacement? Is he good enough? Liverpool have looked at him.”
There is a reason why Balde is largely surplus to requirements at Barca currently, making zero starts in the Champions League and La Liga this season, which may act as a word of warning for Liverpool.
But if sporting director Julian Ward believes he is a good option at left-back, potentially even usurping Milos Kerkez, he needs to be trusted in his second stint in the role.
Balde has won three Spanish titles, which is no mean feat, and has seven caps to his name for Spain, so he is a young player with plenty of pedigree, and he could be desperate to prove his worth at another club.
