Steven Gerrard is being linked with a return to management, with the Liverpool legend installed as the early favorite to become the new Burnley manager.
The Reds’ former captain has been out of management since leaving Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq in January 2025. The 46-year-old previously had spells in charge of Aston Villa and Rangers, where he won the Scottish Premiership title in 2021.
Gerrard was linked with a return to Rangers last year but turned down the job, and has since turned his focus to his media commitments, with the former midfielder a regular pundit on UK channel TNT Sports.
He could be back in the running for a return to management though, having been installed as the favorite to take over at Championship club Burnley.
The Clarets fired Nicky Hayen on Saturday following a 4-1 defeat at Lincoln. The Belgian was relieved of his duties after just 14 games in charge, having been hired during the summer.
Hayen won just one of his 12 league games in charge of the club, with Burnley finding itself in the Championship relegation zone after dropping down from the Premier League last season.
Betting site BetVictor has installed Gerrard as the favorite to succeed Hayen at odds of 4/1. The Liverpool legend is followed close behind by Dave Challinor, Rob Edwards and Sean Dyche, who are all given odds of 6/1.
Two more former Liverpool stars are also included in the running, with current Wales manager Craig Bellamy given a 10/1 shot, while Robbie Keane is listed as an outsider at 16/1 alongside Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and ex-Brentford and Tottenham boss Thomas Frank.
Gerrard was also linked with the Burnley job during the summer before Hayen was appointed, with Scott Parker having left the role at Turf Moor after the club’s relegation from the Premier League was confirmed.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
Speaking earlier this month though, Gerrard indicated that he is still not in any rush to make a return to management.
"At the moment I am happy, I am doing TV with TNT,” Gerrard told the Open Goal podcast. I have signed a new deal. I have got some other bits and bobs that I do, some commercial stuff.
"I became a grandad a year ago. I'm loving being around the family, I get enough time off. My work life balance is great. I've had quite a few offers and chats with teams and stuff but at the moment I am really happy with what I am doing."
