‘Not a proper No. 9’ — Arsenal’s Kai Havertz can relate to Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane

Harry Kane has earned plenty of admirers throughout his career, but when a fellow Premier League and England star points to the Bayern Munich striker as a player worth emulating, it offers another reminder of just how highly regarded the England captain is across the game.

Arsenal forward Kai Havertz was recently asked to name a player he has tried to model his game on, and his answer was Kane.

“I love Harry Kane. For me, he’s one of the best strikers I’ve seen in my life. He’s probably also not a proper No. 9, but still the numbers he produces and also assists, and how he links up and helps the team when they’re deep or something is amazing — so he is definitely someone that I look up to,” Havertz told Men in Blazers (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

For Bayern Munich fans, that endorsement should come as little surprise. Kane has developed into one of the most complete attacking players in world football, combining the finishing instincts of an elite striker with the vision and passing ability of a creative midfielder.

Havertz’s comments are particularly interesting because he recognizes that Kane’s value goes well beyond scoring goals. The Bayern Munich star can drop intomidfield, connect play, bring teammates into the attack, and create opportunities for others. He can be the focal point ofan attack one moment and the player supplying the decisive pass the next.

That versatility is part of what makes Kane such an effective fit for Vincent Kompany’s FC Bayern side. His ability to link up with Bayern Munich’s other attacking options gives the team a dimension that a more traditional penalty-box striker might not provide.

There is also something noteworthy about Havertz identifying Kane as a model for his own game. Like Kane, Havertz has often operated in different attacking roles, moving between striker, attacking midfielder, and deeper positions depending on his team’s needs.

Rather than viewing the No. 9 position as simply a job of scoring goals, Havertz clearly appreciates the importance of contributing to the entire attacking structure.

And that is precisely where Kane excels.

Bayern Munich did not bring Kane to Munich simply to put the ball in the net. They brought in a player capable of elevating the entire attack, and his performances have demonstrated why he belongs in the conversation among the world’s best forwards.

When players of Havertz’s caliber openly admit they look up to Kane, it reinforces an important point: Bayern Munich have one of football’s most complete strikers, and his influence extends far beyond the goals column of the stat sheet.
