Who should replace Troy Aikman on Monday Night Football? | SB Nation

Monday Night Football is likely to see a big change in the broadcast booth next season. Analyst Troy Aikman is in the final year of his contract, and while MNF play-by-play announcer Joe Buck received an extension and a raise, ESPN elected not to make a similar offer to Aikman. That has resulted in an alleged rift between Aikman and Buck, with Aikman making it clear he's considering all his options after his contract ends.

If he ends up leaving ESPN, who will replace him in the booth?

  • Greg Olsen was demoted to FOX's No. 2 team when Tom Brady joined the network. He's a popular analyst and would make a lot of sense.

  • Jason Kelce has become a more high profile figure since retirement, getting some reps in with the NFL Network broadcasts of Europe games. Similarly, if Travis Kelce were to retire after this season, he could be in the mix.

  • Kurt Warner is getting reps with the Kelce broadcasts as well. He's a capable analyst.

  • Sean McVay could decide to leave coaching if things continue going south for the Rams. He would likely prompt a bidding war from the networks.

  • JJ Watt recently signed a new deal with CBS to remain their No. 1 analyst now that Tony Romo is out the door. Watt is off the board, but could Romo get a second chance?

  • Amazon has an out on Kirk Herbstreit's contract. If Prime decides it wants Aikman paired with Al Michaels, would Herbstreit potentially move into the MNF booth?

  • There's always the potential Pat McAfee ends up with yet another addition to his portfolio.

Who should replace Aikman if he walks after the Super Bowl? And who do you think it actually ends up being?
