Chelsea transfer news: Chelsea’s strong start under Xabi Alonso has brought encouraging attacking numbers, but competition for places could force difficult decisions ahead of 2027. The Blues currently sit fourth in the Premier League with 13 points from seven matches, recording four wins, one draw and two defeats. They have scored freely, yet 12 league goals conceded expose defensive problems that Alonso must address.
Chelsea’s summer recruitment has intensified that competition, with £117 million reportedly spent on Morgan Rogers among the major investments. Those changes have increased pressure on players fighting for regular starts, particularly at right-back.
Reece James remains Alonso’s leading option when fit, but recurring injuries complicate selection. Meanwhile, young Italian defender Marco Palestra and academy graduate Josh Acheampong offer additional options, leaving Gusto with greater competition for minutes.
Malo Gusto has made seven appearances in all competitions so far this season, including five Premier League matches and two EFL Cup outings. The 23-year-old Frenchman has played 387 minutes, registered one assist and scored no goals. His pace and overlapping runs give Chelsea an attacking outlet, but those qualities will count for less if Alonso continues to favour alternatives in a system that demands disciplined positioning.
According to a report relayed by Transfer Feed, Paris Saint-Germain could rival Manchester City for Gusto in 2027 if his situation at Stamford Bridge changes. However, the report does not establish that either club has submitted an offer or opened formal negotiations.
Gusto’s contract runs until 2030, and he reportedly earns £45,000 per week, giving Chelsea time to negotiate rather than accept the first offer. Reports suggest the club could consider £60 million to £70 million, down from an earlier reported valuation of around £90 million. These figures remain estimates, not confirmed asking prices.
A sale could fund other priorities, but Chelsea must account for Reece James’s injury record before weakening their right-back options. Palestra and Acheampong may offer long-term solutions, yet potential alone cannot guarantee consistent performances across a demanding season.
Chelsea should judge Gusto on his actual role under Alonso, not simply his market value. If the Frenchman remains a secondary option despite his experience and attacking ability, a substantial offer from Manchester City or PSG could justify a sale.
If James misses further matches, however, Gusto’s value to the squad could outweigh the financial return. The hierarchy must establish whether Alonso genuinely sees him as part of the long-term plan before deciding his future.
