A Lewis Walker strike and further goals from Maz Kouhyar and David Davis secured a memorable afternoon at Aggborough, with bumper 3,706 crowd watching Harriers dominate their higher-division opponents.
For Wotton, it was a result that rewarded his players' efforts and gave the home crowd plenty to enjoy.
"It's a fantastic day for the players, the fans and the town, a really good day for us," he said.
"We started the game really, really well. I thought we could have scored more goals first half and second half.
"We have to remember we're still playing a League One team, whatever the result suggests. We had to do an awful lot of defending. We had to be excellent off the ball today and I thought we were.”
Walker opened the scoring after 22 minutes, reacting quickest after his initial effort struck the post to fire home his tenth goal of the campaign.
The striker then turned provider for Kouhyar to double the advantage on 36 minutes, before Davis converted a rebound from a Kouhyar effort just before the hour.
Wotton felt the introduction of additional quality to his squad had made a difference, but was equally keen to recognise the collective effort.
"Austin and Kouhyar keep us on the ball. It makes a big difference.
"We were defensively sound today, which we have been for the vast majority of the season.
"The boys deserve a nice cold beer 100% because they've worked themselves into the ground. I hope the fans do as well."
The Harriers boss also reserved praise for Callum Stewart, who again operated in an unfamiliar position on the right of midfield.
The talisman played what is the final game of his loan spell from Shrewsbury Town, with his immediate future uncertain.
"He's selfless," Wotton said. "Believe me, not every player gives you that commitment when they're playing in a position they don't want to play in."
With Doncaster's late effort from Alfie May ruled out for offside, Harriers completed their victory with a solid clean sheet and secured a place in Monday night's draw.
It is the furthest Wotton has progressed in the competition as a manager, though his attention will quickly turn back to National League matters and next Saturday's visit of FC Halifax Town.
"Monday morning, we're back to work," he added. "We've got Halifax at home on Saturday, which is a big game.”
