Regular season history on Sunday night games

: All tied up 2-2, per Stathead.

Three random Sunday Night Football factoids between these two teams:

  1. The most infamous Sunday primetime meeting between the two franchises happened in the final week of the 2020 season. The NFC East was atrocious that season. The 4-10-1 Eagles played host to a 6-9 Washington squad. If Washington won, they won the craptastic division. If they lost, the 6-10 Giants would instead. After taking a 14-10 lead, the Eagles tanked the rest of the game, pulling a rookie Jalen Hurts in favor of Nate Sudfeld. Washington prevailed 20-14, making the postseason while Giants players melted down online. The loss aided the Eagles' draft positioning and helped them maneuver to land DeVonta Smith and other big draft assets the following spring.

  2. Philly and Washington squared off Sunday evening during the Eagles' Super Bowl-bound season in 2004. Who scored the two touchdowns for the Birds in that 17-4 win that moved their record to 12-1? None other than a second-year L.J. Smith and a 34-year-old Dorsey Levens, who finished with an outrageous stat line of three rushing attempts for zero yards and a TD.

  3. Washington's first SNF win over Philly came in 2005. During the second season of the Joe Gibbs 2.0 era, the Eagles fell 17-10 at FedEx Field. The Birds would continue falling off, missing the postseason and snapping their streak of four-consecutive division titles. Washington, conversely, would make the postseason for the first time since 1999 and advance to the NFC Divisional Round.
