The world champions seek more success with more silverware in their sights
South Africa resume their quest for more silverware as their Nations Championship campaign continues against an injury-hit Italy.
The Springboks were unbeaten during the first phase of the inaugural edition of this competition in July, beating England, Scotland and Wales to leave themselves well placed ahead of a huge November. Even with fixtures against France and Ireland to come, Rassie Erasmus names virtually his strongest side for a meeting with the Azzurri – though Eben Etzebeth, Cheslin Kolbe and Handre Pollard are among those absent.
Italy boss Gonzalo Quesada may curse his own luck with much of the core of his side unavailable. It was a tough July for Quesada’s side as they struggled to build on a strong Six Nations, but Italy pushed the world champions hard during last year’s meeting and will hope to do so again in Turin.
Italy and South Africa kick off the second phase of the Nations Championship with a meeting in Turin. The Springboks went unbeaten in their home series in July and face an injury-hit home side here – but the Azzurri pushed the world champions hard 12 months ago and will hope to do likewise.
Kick off is at 11.40am GMT.
