LE MANS, France (AP) — Monaco midfielder Mamadou Coulibaly will likely face punishment for celebrating a goal with a throat-slitting gesture on Sunday.

Coulibaly made the most of a goalkeeping blunder to score Monaco’s opener against Le Mans in Ligue 1. He then slid on his knees and made the gesture before his teammates gathered around him to celebrate.

In September, Coulibaly’s teammate Paris Brunner was suspended two matches for a similar celebration during a game against Strasbourg, despite apologizing for the controversial gesture.

Brunner said after the game he did not intend to show disrespect and that he was sorry if his gesture had offended anyone.
