On a wet, windy Tuesday night, Brockenhurst and Ringwood Town were the night’s big winners, while Bashley, Lymington Town, and Totton & Eling went home empty-handed.

In the Wessex League Premier Division, the Badgers kept up their impressive form with a 5-0 demolition of Bemerton Heath Harlequins, while Bashley suffered a 2-1 loss to Downton.

Ringwood stormed into the next round of the Russell Cotes Cup with a 2-1 victory over Cowes Sports, but Lymington were knocked out by AFC Portchester.

Finally, in Wessex League Division One, the Millers were pummelled by a ruthless Newport (IoW) side that found the net with eight unanswered goals.

Brockenhurst’s Wessex League Premier Division rise continues to gather pace, with Harry McGrath once again at the heart of their success as they swept aside Bemerton Heath Harlequins 5-0 at the Meadens Skoda Arena.

The prolific McGrath, who has now scored 15 goals this season, was involved in all five goals on Tuesday evening, registering two assists before finally getting the goal his performance deserved in the 90th minute.

Ashton Palmier set Brockenhurst on their way after 11 minutes, curling a free-kick into the bottom corner. It was his fourth consecutive successful free-kick, underlining the midfielder’s outstanding form.

McGrath then produced a delightful chip toward the back post, where Toby Colmer got a touch and guided the ball beyond the goalkeeper to double the hosts’ advantage after 19 minutes.

Palmier turned provider on the hour mark, threading a superb through ball for McGrath, who unselfishly squared for Dylan Walker to slot home.

McGrath was involved again in the 73rd minute, finding Mitch Speechley-Price, whose effort was parried for Palmier to head home his second of the night.

The in-form McGrath completed the scoring in the final minute, capping another influential display as Brockenhurst continued their impressive run.

Bashley suffered late heartbreak as second-placed Downton snatched all three points with a 79th-minute winner at the Brian Whitehead Sports Centre Association on Tuesday evening.

The visitors started brightly, with recent signing Harry Baker continuing to impress, testing the Downton goalkeeper with a powerful strike from distance.

At the other end, Ben Taylor was called into action after just three minutes, producing a fine save to deny the hosts from an angle.

Bashley threatened again through Joe Freak, who chased down a loose ball before picking out Baker in the box. The forward’s powerful effort was well saved, before he went close again after beating his marker in a foot race, only for the keeper to deny him one-on-one.

The high-flying Robins broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute, with former Bashley player Owen Fee breaking through the defence and slotting into the bottom corner despite furious handball appeals.

However, Bashley responded immediately. Kai Samadi found Freak in space, and the pacey attacker made no mistake, restoring parity.

The game looked destined for a draw until Downton struck again in the 79th minute, with James Clark delivering an excellent cross for Ronan Clancy to head home.

Bashley pushed for a late equaliser, but another former player, Ross Casey, cleared the danger with a strong punch.

Ringwood Town booked their place in the second round of the Russell Cotes Cup with a hard-fought victory over Cowes Sports at the Diverse Marine Stadium, despite a late scare from the hosts.

The contest was delayed by 15 minutes because of travel disruptions, but Ringwood soon found their feet, with longtime club stalwart Ben Harris opening the scoring after 22 minutes.

Harris collected the ball around 20 yards out and sent a low, powerful strike skidding across the wet surface and inside the bottom-left post, leaving Yachtsmen goalkeeper Ben Gearing beaten.

Ringwood doubled their advantage in the 57th minute when a dangerous ball curled in from the right evaded the defence, allowing winger Denys Tysplakov to arrive at the back post and turn the ball home.

Cowes threatened a late comeback when Jordan Whittle whipped a free-kick into the box. The goalkeeper failed to clear it, allowing Luke Glynn to scramble home a consolation.

Lymington Town were knocked out of the Russell Cotes Cup after a difficult evening against AFC Portchester at the Sports Ground.

The visitors took the lead after 23 minutes when Connor Duffin ran onto a through ball from midfield and slotted home.

The Royals then doubled their advantage five minutes later, with Rob Taw’s free-kick from the left finding a teammate at the far post, whose knockdown allowed Lee Wort to turn the ball home.

Duffin then grabbed his second after 32 minutes, heading home from close range following a cross from the left to complete a dominant first-half display.

Lymington regroup ahead of Saturday’s home clash against Whitchurch United.

Ji Nash stole the show with five goals as Newport (IOW) thrashed Totton & Eling 8-0 at WightFibre Park, leaving the Millers rooted to the foot of the table.

Kai Grace opened the scoring after 16 minutes before Nash doubled the lead from the penalty spot 10 minutes later.

Nash struck again in the 40th minute to give Newport a commanding half-time advantage, then completed his hat-trick just two minutes after the restart to make it 4-0.

Grace grabbed his second of the evening on 66 minutes before Dan Pearson added a sixth in the 77th minute.

Nash was not finished, however, restoring his grip on the headlines with a cheeky fourth goal in the 80th minute before completing his five-goal haul five minutes later to round off a dominant display.
