Antonio Conte has confirmed that he is not in advanced talks with Manchester United, despite reports to the contrary.

The 57-year-old has been heavily linked with an Old Trafford switch amid significant speculation suggesting that Michael Carrick will soon be sacked, and it has been reported that he is in direct contact with the Red Devils board.

However, Conte has denied such speculation with an official statement, while pouring cold water on rumours hinting that he has already made transfer demands ahead of a possible move to the 13-time Premier League champions.

“Following recent media reports in Italy, I feel it is appropriate to clarify my position,” Conte posted on his Instagram account.

“My name has been linked with numerous clubs, but there are currently no negotiations at an advanced stage.

“Following a wonderful and successful spell in charge of Napoli, I will take the time I need to consider how and when to return to management. It will be a carefully considered decision, one I will make when I believe the conditions are right.

“I have read reports of financial demands and requests for full control that I have supposedly already made to the clubs mentioned, as well as reservations about what has been described as my ‘strong personality’. These reports are unfounded, as there is currently no concrete basis for such assessments.

“Should a concrete opportunity arise, that will be the time to hold discussions with the club concerned and jointly consider the terms of a potential agreement, with due regard for both parties’ needs and the qualities and approach that define my work as a manager.

“Until then, any assumptions about my demands and my professional future remain speculation and cannot be treated as fact.”

Will Man Utd sack Michael Carrick?

While Conte has revealed that he is not in talks to become the next Man Utd manager, he is among the candidates to replace the aforementioned Carrick at Old Trafford.

The current Red Devils boss is under immense pressure following the club’s humiliating 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League on Wednesday, with his side now without a win in their last seven matches across all competitions.

Reports suggest that Carrick retains the support of the Man Utd hierarchy, although that stance could change if they lose to Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon, with a host of managers lined up as possible replacements.

In addition to Conte, Man Utd are also reportedly interested in Fabian Hurzeler, Julian Nagelsmann and Eddie Howe, with Carrick desperately needing a positive result this weekend to avoid the sack.
