Liverpool have another fairly quick turnaround between matches this weekend after Wednesday’s trip to Fenerbahce is followed by an away game against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Andoni Iraola managed to keep some of his key players fresh for the trip to Selhurst Park by rotating in midweek, as he attempts to lighten the load of a busy fixture schedule.
Thankfully, Liverpool do not appear to have suffered any further fitness blows in Istanbul, and ahead of the clash with Palace, Iraola has reportedly been given the green light to bring Jeremie Frimpong back into the fold.
Frimpong has been missing for Liverpool ever since coming off injured after just seven minutes on the pitch against Brentford in October. But, according to the Daily Mail, he is now ready to return.
They claim that the Dutchman is now ‘all-but fit’ and could even play against Crystal Palace on Sunday if Iraola wants to use him.
However, the decision has already been taken that, while Frimpong is seemingly ready to play, he will not be risked in South London.
The 25-year-old appears to have been dealing with another hamstring injury, and it’s claimed that after Dominik Szoboszlai was rushed back too early from a similar problem last month, Liverpool’s medical staff will not take the same risk with Frimpong.
Instead, the Netherlands international will reportedly be given until after the international break before being considered for selection again.
Frimpong did not feature at all despite being called up by Xavi for last month’s international fixtures, and with the Dutch squad set to be announced on Friday, it is unlikely he will be selected this time, giving him a couple of weeks to regain his momentum and work on his fitness with Liverpool.
