Former Juventus shot-stopper Emanuele Belardi believes ‘this’ Tottenham loanee is worth signing permanently

Guglielmo Vicario moved to Juventus on loan from Tottenham in the summer.

Guglielmo Vicario left Tottenham Hotspur and returned to Italy in the summer, joining Juventus on a season-long loan after Roberto De Zerbi decided to promote Antonin Kinsky as the club’s new No.1.

The Italian international’s future at Spurs was full of speculation throughout the summer. He failed to prove himself as a reliable goalkeeper across three seasons in North London, and after Kinsky showed he’s more than good enough to become the club’s No.1, De Zerbi made it clear to Guglielmo Vicario that his services won’t be required anymore.

After weighing up several alternatives, Juventus finally decided to invest in Vicario in August. The Tottenham loanee’s arrival at Old Lady was met with some scepticism, but he has quickly become a fan favourite and given plenty of reason to be positive. The 30-year-old has made an impressive start to his loan spell at Juventus, recording three clean sheets in his opening six appearances and conceding just five goals.

Former Juventus goalkeeper believes Guglielmo Vicario should be signed permanently

Many pundits have praised Vicario for quickly settling in at Juventus, with former goalkeeper Michelangelo Rampulla insisting he never doubted the Tottenham loanee’s quality. Truly, Vicario has seamlessly slotted in as the first-choice between the sticks for Juventus under manager Luciano Spalletti.

Now, another ex-Bianconeri goalkeeper has lauded the 30-year-old. Emanuele Belardi feels it is worth Juventus making Vicario’s loan move permanent.

“Even if he’s no Buffon or Peruzzi, I’d say yes,” Belardi told Italian outlet Tutto Juve when asked whether Juventus should sign Vicario permanently from Tottenham.

“He’s a good goalkeeper and is proving to be very reliable.”

Juventus planning to sign Vicario permanently

The Serie A heavyweights can secure the shot-stopper’s services for just €8m, with reports emerging that retaining the Italian is firmly in their plans. Juve are thoroughly satisfied with Vicario’s impact and contributions since the start of the season, and they want to secure his future.

Juve’s hierarchy seemingly already has a long-term contract ready for the Udine-born star, running until 2030. By handing him a contract until 2030, the Turin giants intend to make Vicario a pillar of their defence under Spalletti. It is worth remembering that Spalletti pushed for Vicario’s acquisition in the summer, and his decision has been vindicated.

The €8m buy clause for the Italian custodian negotiated in the summer is beginning to look like a bargain price for Juventus now.
