Bronny James is moving down to the G League.

The Los Angeles Lakers are sending the 22-year-old son of NBA superstar LeBron James to their G League affiliate team, the Coachella Valley Lakers, the team announced on Thursday, Nov. 5.

Bronny was drafted by the Lakers with the 55th pick in the 2024 Draft. At the time, LeBron, 41, was still on the team’s roster and the two made history as the first father-son duo to share an NBA court.

But now, LeBron is playing for the Philadelphia 76ers and Bronny has been seeing few minutes in the Lakers’ first nine games of the season.

Before being moved to the G League, Bronny has averaged 2.4 minutes and 0.8 points this season, mostly taking the floor at the end of games when his teammates already had the win secured.

Over three seasons, Bronny has appeared in just 74 games for the Lakers. In his first two years in the league, Bronny spent time with the Lakers’ G League team, known then as the South Bay Lakers before their move to the Coachella Valley this season.

In the G League, Bronny averaged 18.4 points, 4.4 assists and 4 rebounds for the affiliate team, according to ESPN.

In addition to Bronny, the Lakers sent shooting guard Cameron Carr to their G League affiliate.

The Coachella Valley Lakers open their season on Friday, Nov. 6 against the Salt Lake City Stars.

LeBron’s Sixers will face the Lakers for the first time since the NBA superstar signed with Philadelphia on Christmas Day, though it remains unknown whether or not he or his son will take the court. On Lakers media day, Bronny told reporters he’s “happy for” his dad amid the move.

“We’re men of very little words when it comes to talking about business and what we’re going to do and how we feel about each other,” Bronny said.

“He’s got his own path and I’ve got my own, so he knows that I want to make a name for myself and want to continue my career and keep growing as a player, and he knows I’ll want to focus on that, so he decided to [move].”
