Blake Corum offers intriguing Chargers verdict after Jim Harbaugh reunion
OCTOBER 18: Blake Corum #24 of the Los Angeles Rams runs the ball during the game against the Arizona Cardinals at SoFi Stadium on October 18, 2026 in Inglewood, California. The Arizona Cardinals won 18-16

INGLEWOOD, California - As the adage goes, "Home is where the heart is."

Though the Los Angeles Rams are currently 4-4 in the 2026 NFL season, they have won two games at SoFi Stadium. The other team that shares the stadium with the Rams, the Los Angeles Chargers, have had no such luck, having lost all their games this season, including their Week 8 drubbing at the hands of the Rams.

As the search for their first win continues, those around the league understand that it is only a matter of time before the Chargers string together four quality quarters. Despite playing for the Rams, star running back Blake Corum lauded what the Chargers have done this season.

"To be honest, the Chargers defense was really good," the 25-year-old said after the game. "Like going into the week, just game planning for them, like they're better than what their record says.

"Their front D-line is really good. Linebackers are really good, and their DBs are really good. So, I mean, we knew it was going to be a challenge, we knew it wasn't going to be a cakewalk, and we had to come in and make some adjustments, and we were able to do that."

An adjustment the Rams made was to give the ball to Corum more in the second half, with the third quarter beginning with the running back rushing in four straight possessions. After two plays to star wide receiver Puka Nacua for positive yardage, the Rams returned to feeding Corum the ball, culminating in a 23-yard rushing touchdown.

"So [Rams head coach Sean McVay] challenged us and we were able to go out there, but that's a credit to the offensive line and everyone blocking and allowing me just to use my vision and go from there. It was great to see."

Regarding the Chargers' play this season, Corum added, "We knew going in their record doesn't show that team. That's a good team. They just haven't been able to figure out how to finish. And so, you saw the first half and really the whole game.

"That's a good team. That defense is a solid defense. And so, we didn't go into the game like, 'We have to win because they haven't won a game yet; that would look bad.' And it's more so just, like, focusing on ourselves."

Notably, the Rams' Week 8 win marked the first time Corum has faced off against his former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh. The star running back won a national championship under Harbaugh, and, given the 62-year-old's success at the collegiate level, there were heightened expectations for the Chargers after the hire.

It is clear that the Chargers have failed to meet those expectations, as star quarterback Justin Herbert struggles under offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. Despite how poorly the offense has played, Harbaugh remains committed to McDaniel, even after being pressed by reporters about the 43-year-old's job security.

“We're aware of what the issues are, and we're the only ones that can fix them,” Harbaugh said to reporters after another disappointing outing. "Yeah, our motivation is a dedication to getting it changed, getting it fixed."

After further questioning, Harbaugh added, "I said I'm focused on this game. We're gonna go watch this tape, and I believe in our guys, I believe in our players, our coaches."

In spite of his history with the Chargers' head coach, Corum admitted that the win meant nothing to him. "I have a lot of respect for Coach Harbaugh for giving me the opportunity to go to the University of Michigan," the 25-year-old said to reporters.

"And, you know, I just wanted to come out here and do whatever I could to help this team win. I've put that in the past. And so my main focus is really just this organization and trying my best to be my best."

Given how both teams have played this season and their proximity to one another, Corum stated that there was no antagonism between the two franchises, unlike the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers or the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Angels.

"They're in the AFC," he stated to reporters. "So, any time you play an in-state team that's going back to college, you want to win in your state. And so I wouldn't consider it a rivalry. It's just another game."

The Rams are scheduled to play the Washington Commanders and the Arizona Cardinals in the coming weeks, while the Chargers are set to face the Houston Texans at SoFi Stadium and the Baltimore Ravens on the road, respectively, as they look to win their first game of the season, especially in front of the home crowd that is waiting to shower the team with love.
