CRISTIANO RONALDO’S controversial sister Katia Aveiro sparked a great deal of mystery following the legendary footballer’s retirement announcement by suggesting “things will become clearer tomorrow”.
Ronaldo, 41, rolled credits on his international career earlier today following 23 successful years with Portugal that saw him winning Euro 2016 as well as two Nations League honours.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner shared the news with an emotional social media video – just weeks after clashing with manager Jorge Jesus and walking out on his national team, whom he captains.
Tributes flooded across social media for the Al-Nassr superstar with Katia, 49, leading the way.
Ronaldo‘s sister posted on her Instagram stories: “I could say a lot, but time will certainly reveal everything. And until then, I say to you: you are great, a giant, and a legend.”
The content creator followed it up with a lengthy statement that teased further developments regarding CR7’s status with Portugal.
Katia posted: “Today the world bids you farewell with the Portugal national team. As for me, as your sister, I look back and feel a pride that my chest cannot contain.
“I know the battles you fought, everything you gave to our country, and what you built throughout your career.
“You changed the course of your destiny, and you took Portugal with you. Yes, it is a sad day, but stages end so that other stages can begin.
“Time is the judge, and if there is still something in need of an answer, perhaps things will become clearer tomorrow. Your honour and the path you took are greater than any farewell.”
Katia has been very outspoken regarding her brother’s recent controversies involving Portugal with some scathing statements.
When former manager Fernando Santos dropped Ronaldo to the bench during the 2022 World Cup, she posted a lengthy message urging him to leave the team and come back to his family.
She also lambasted all of the Manchester United legend’s team-mates during last summer’s World Cup as she sensationally claimed they were sabotaging him amid a number of hapless performances from Ronnie.
The Real Madrid great got embroiled in some more controversy recently as he fell out with current boss Jesus, who benched him during the Nations League break.
The star forward then stormed out of the team and released a near 2,000-word rant accusing the Portuguese tactician of going back on his word.
However, the experienced manager suggested they have patched things up with a touching tribute and suggested that he wanted him to continue with the national team despite their recent spat.
Jesus said: “Cristiano is a global icon, an example for Portugal and the national team. I had a huge photo of him put up in our auditorium so that all the young players could look up to him every single day.
“I asked him to continue with me because I needed him by my side. But I have to accept his decision.
“He will always have a place in the hearts of the Portuguese people. He will always be an icon of Portuguese football.”
