Ex-Swindon Town man Jayden Bogle tipped for England call-up

Thomas Tuchel will name his England squad for the forthcoming international break on November 6 with the hope of qualifying for the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals in March.

Among many players receiving clamour to be included is Bogle, who came through in the Swindon academy before signing for Derby County alongside Jayden Mitchell-Lawson in August 2018.

After breaking through under Frank Lampard at Derby and impressing at Sheffield United, the 26-year-old has been ever-present for Leeds United for the last three seasons, and a consistent Premier League performer.

With regular right-back Reece James and his back-up Tino Livramento both out injured, there is an opening in Bogle’s position for this squad.

Former England right-back Gary Neville led the charge for Bogle during Leeds’ draw with Manchester United on Sky Sports, saying: "They've [England] been quite blessed in that position in the past few years.

"Certainly, if you're wanting an attacking option, the crosses he's put into the box there. If they wanted the option to go to wing-backs, he'd be right up there.

"He's been the biggest threat; his crosses and going forward, he's been strong for Leeds."

There is more credence than just Neville’s opinion, as Leeds manager Daniel Farke admitted that Tuchel had spoken to him about Bogle.

He said in a press conference last month: “Thomas Tuchel told me that if Jayden Bogle had two goals, then there would have been a chance for a call-up.”

There remains plenty of competition in that position, with Jarrell Quansah a regular for Bayer Leverkusen, Djed Spence having returned from injury to start Inter Milan’s last two matches, Trent Alexander-Arnold impressing in the last squad, and Ben White back fit and playing regularly for Arsenal.

But Bogle's form in an impressive Leeds team will surely have him in the mix.

In an interview with BBC Radio Leeds, he said: “That is every young boy’s dream to represent their country, and it would be a proud achievement.

“At the same time, for me to continue playing my best football, I think that I just need to focus on the games coming up and take it week by week.

“If it happens, then it would be a very proud moment for me and my family, but, if not, then I understand in my head that I just need to keep working, and hopefully one day it will come.”
