Nothing drags a star running back into trade-deadline chatter faster than a losing skid, and the Baltimore Ravens extended theirs Thursday night with a 33-10 home loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars that dropped them to 4-5.

However, Derrick Henry chose to frame the days before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET trade deadline around fixing the season in Baltimore, not around where else he might finish it.

Derrick Henry Urges Ravens Turnaround Amid 4-Game Skid

Henry put it plainly while speaking with reporters: “I am not mentioning me going anywhere else. I’m saying, let’s go back to work. Let’s try to get better and turn this around.”

Henry has made his feelings about Baltimore clear before. Before this season, he told Kay Adams, “When I’m done playing, I want to be done playing here. When I hang it up, Baltimore will be the last place that I want to be.”

On Thursday Night Football, Baltimore decided to lean on Henry, even having him take 10 direct snaps out of the shotgun, and he piled up 51 yards on 12 first-half carries. But all the offense had to show for the first half was a 53-yard Jake Moody field goal on its opening possession.

After Jacksonville took a 17-3 lead into halftime, it held Henry to 6 yards on five carries the rest of the way, and he finished with 57 yards on 17 attempts, taking his season average to 3.9 yards per carry, a career low.

The passing game offered little relief. Undrafted rookie quarterback Joe Fagnano, who took his first NFL snaps in the Week 8 loss at Buffalo, completed 10 of 18 passes for 60 yards with two interceptions, both after halftime, and Baltimore finished with 55 net passing yards.

Clay Travis Makes the Case for Trading Derrick Henry to a Contender

The skid has left the Ravens fourth in the AFC North at 4-5 with eight games left, and they have been outscored 117-43 over their last four games, with three of those losses coming by 20 points or more.

NFL analyst Clay Travis made the case for selling on Thursday night. “The Ravens should trade Derrick Henry to a contender. The season is done, and Henry doesn’t have that many years left to play. Feels like a no-brainer.”

Henry, for his part, has addressed the retirement question before. At training camp ahead of his 11th NFL season, he said, “I don’t try to enter another season thinking about retiring and have that on my mind. That’s not even my mindset.”

Henry’s season offers material for both sides of that argument. Through Week 9, he has 689 rushing yards, seventh in the NFL, and eight rushing touchdowns, tied for third.

His 3.9 yards per carry over that span is tied for 29th of 46 qualified rushers, while Pro Football Network’s NFL RB Impact Grade has Henry at 78 through Week 9, 15th of 46 graded running backs.

The quarterback spot that produced those 55 net passing yards may soon change hands. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday, citing sources, that Arizona was close to sending quarterback Jacoby Brissett to Baltimore in a deal that could be done this weekend, with Brissett’s first Ravens start possibly coming as soon as Week 10.

The Ravens don’t play again until they host the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday, Nov. 16, six days after the deadline, which means the question of whether Henry stays in Baltimore will be answered before he gets another carry.
