Tyrann Mathieu and his wife Kandra are growing their family!

The former New Orleans Saints safety, 34, is expecting his fifth baby, his third with wife Kandra, a rep for the couple confirms to PEOPLE. Tyrann and Kandra will welcome their little one this January, joining their older kids — daughter Zaide, 15 months, and son Zaiden, 2 — as well as Tyrann’s kids from previous relationships: Tyrann Jr., 12; Mila, 6; and son Noah, 13.

“We actually found out after a family beach trip this summer,” Kandra tells PEOPLE. “I slept pretty much the entire week, and once we got home, we started joking with our family and friends that I might be pregnant. Sure enough, we took a test, and I was!”

Kandra says that while all their loved ones were “so excited” for them, she jokes that they weren’t excited to go through yet another pregnancy with the couple.

“In 2024, I was pregnant alongside four of my friends, and in 2025, I was pregnant at the same time as six of Tyrann’s family members,” says Kandra. “So a third year in a row? Nobody wants to catch the pregnancy bug this time.”

She explains that although she’s had relatively normal cravings, her pregnancy has felt different this time around.

“As far as cravings go, I’ve mostly been craving cooked food, ice and fruit, which are pretty normal pregnancy cravings for me,” says Kandra.

“This pregnancy has been really different, though. With my first two, I didn’t experience sickness or many symptoms at all, but this time I was extremely sick and nauseous for the first two months. I practically felt bedridden at times, so it was definitely an adjustment.”

Although Kandra and Tyrann have found out the sex of their baby and have started talking names, they aren’t sharing either piece of news quite yet. Instead, the two say they’re excited to grow their family together.

“We’re so excited to welcome another little one. Babies have such a beautiful way of reminding you of the kindness in the world and the purity in everyday life,” she shares. “One of our favorite things has been watching the bonds the younger children have formed with their older siblings, and we are so excited to experience that all over again.”

“The baby is actually due right around Noah’s birthday, and he was so excited when he realized there was a chance he could have a birthday twin!” continues Kandra. “They’re all so loving, and we think it’s going to be incredibly fulfilling to watch this baby come into the family and fit right in.”
